We’re proud to announce that UpFront Diagnostics has been awarded £500,000 in funding from SBRI Healthcare to accelerate the commercialisation of LVOne, our breakthrough diagnostic test for stroke detection.
This award marks a major step forward in generating the real-world evidence required for NHS adoption and national scale-up.
Advancing Stroke Diagnosis Through Innovation
LVOne is a rapid, point-of-care blood test that identifies patients with Large Vessel Occlusion (LVO) stroke in just minutes — even before arriving at hospital. The device enables earlier treatment decisions, improves patient outcomes, and has the potential to transform emergency stroke care across the UK.
The SBRI-funded project will address three critical areas:
- Barriers and facilitators to real-world implementation of LVOne
- Diagnostic accuracy in identifying patients eligible for treatment
- Health economics, evaluating cost-effectiveness and outcome improvement
“This award is a huge step towards transforming stroke care and ensuring timely treatment for those in need,”
— Gonzalo Ladreda, CEO, UpFront Diagnostics
Strategic NHS Partnerships
UpFront Diagnostics is proud to collaborate with leading institutions to carry out this project:
- Newcastle University
- Health Innovation North East and North Cumbria (AHSN NENC)
- North East Ambulance Service (NEAS)
- Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

These partnerships will allow for robust data collection, clinical engagement, and economic modelling to ensure that LVOne can be implemented where it’s needed most — in real-world NHS emergency care settings.
